Kalisz is a fictional account set in Kalisz, Poland, travelling between worlds of time and place through the rich Jewish culture’s rituals and traditions. This novel depicts a Jewish family’s ordeals through two world wars, and their separation as the Holocaust evolves. It is without intention that Rose, the daughter of the story’s protagonist, returns to her father’s ancestral home to find that it is not the same Kalisz her father knew. The large Jewish population has been emptied and left silent by the Holocaust, but an extraordinary connection is made between two families, and the hidden past of Rose’s ancestry is revealed.
