This book uses pho­tographs, graph­ics and a clear, acces­si­ble font to pro­vide a sim­ple expla­na­tion of the hol­i­day geared to those with min­i­mal or no back­ground. Laws, cus­toms and tra­di­tions are described and impor­tant words are high­light­ed and defined at the back of the book. A note is includ­ed inform­ing the read­er that links to fur­ther infor­ma­tion about the hol­i­day can be found on the publisher’s web­site. Rec­om­mend­ed for ages 6 – 9.

Michal Hoschan­der Malen is the edi­tor of Jew­ish Book Coun­cil’s young adult and children’s book reviews. A for­mer librar­i­an, she has lec­tured on top­ics relat­ing to lit­er­a­cy, run book clubs, and loves to read aloud to her grandchildren.
