Set in France, Palestine and America, between 1939 and 1989, Heirlooms follows the Latours, a French Jewish family as they sidestep the Nazis and their Vichy counterparts. A combination of good luck and instincts work in their favor, but they are not exempt from tragedy, which strikes when the end of the war is in clear sight. Reeling from their losses and disillusionment, the Latours emigrate to America, where they hope to leave the past behind. Inspired by the author’s family stories as well as extensive research, Heirlooms explores our assumptions about good and evil, memory and truth.
