Author, playwright, and journalist Barbara Graham has spent her career exploring psychology, spirituality, parenthood, and health. Several years ago, while researching a piece on past life regression therapy for Self magazine, she became fascinated with the topic, and it stayed with her until one day inspiration struck. That inspiration takes form in her dazzling debut novel, What Jonah Knew, in which a seven-year-old boy mysteriously recalls the memories of a missing twenty-two-year-old musician, while also limning the fierce love between mothers and sons. It is a gripping work of psychological suspense that explores PTSD through multiple lenses: inherited family trauma (several of Jonah’s family members were killed at Auschwitz), Zen, Tibetan Buddhism, and well-documented studies conducted at the University of Virginia School of Medicine on children who spontaneously recall a previous life. The book raises profound questions not just about the after-life, but about how to live now.
