Meir and Shloimy and their families are invited guests at a celebratory dinner at the Kosher Wonton Restaurant in Boston, celebrating the discovery of the diamonds in the bathhouse,” the mystery which they helped solve in book one of this series, Double Trouble. Meir’s older sister, ten-year-old Shira, who is smart and very observant, notices something strange about the messages in the fortune cookie they are given for dessert. The boys are off and running to solve the new mystery. Is someone tampering with the fortune cookies? Is it a coincidence? Robbers? Espionage? Stolen goods? The police, eventually alerted by the boys, appear just in time to make the arrests.

The characters and their families are well developed. This mystery, which is interestingly and well-written, will keep the reader’s attention. The use of Yiddish words, such as negel vasser and vasikin minyan, and description of Jewish religious customs observed by the two families, may limit the scope of the reading audience.

Recommended for ages 7 – 10.
