Getting one’s period is a rite of passage that is often celebrated — perhaps with a light face slap and Mazel Tov!” Yet the end of menstruation— menopause — is rarely celebrated. In fact, it remains stigmatized and misunderstood. For millennial women who have been taught little or nothing about menopause, the next period of life is daunting, though impending (the average age in the US is 51, and women may experience symptoms for years prior). Psychotherapist and women’s advocate, Lauren Tetenbaum, was inspired to learn more about menopause after attending a Jewish women’s networking event. As a millennial mom passionate about women’s reproductive health, she was struck by how little she knew about menopause. So she set out to learn more, and to share what she learned, from four dozen women’s health experts, everyday women, and the latest research on treatment options and policies. Covering how midlife hormonal changes can affect women’s physical health, emotional wellness, careers, sex lives, friendships, and more, Millennial Menopause gives this generation the fresh, relatable, and empowering guide it deserves.
