This super­nat­ur­al crime fic­tion tale by the father-son Keller­man team is a fas­ci­nat­ing sequel to The Golem of Hol­ly­wood. Detec­tive Jacob Lev is a hard-drink­ing mal­con­tent who has been reas­signed to a lone­ly desk job. He recent­ly found his moth­er who he’d thought was dead, and stopped com­mu­ni­cat­ing with his father for whom he blames his moth­er’s sit­u­a­tion. Lev has been con­tact­ed by some strange Spe­cial Projects per­son­nel who work for a mys­te­ri­ous LAPD divi­sion. He has also expe­ri­enced a few encoun­ters with Mai, an evanes­cent female fig­ure he might have only dreamt about. This sto­ry takes place in Cal­i­for­nia, Brook­lyn, Prague, Israel, and Paris, with the detec­tive learn­ing details about his moth­er’s hid­den past while pur­su­ing a pos­si­ble cross Atlantic ser­i­al killer. of course there is also a golem involved with all the his­to­ry relat­ed to that ungod­ly clay mon­ster. This Keller­man col­lab­o­ra­tion is a sus­pense­ful page turn­er deal­ing with fam­i­ly rela­tions, work pol­i­tics, issues of trust, loy­al­ty, reli­gious belief, love and faith. This read­er had much to think about long after the sto­ry’s end.
