Life has many transitions – from the birth of a baby, to the loss of a parent, from getting a new job to receiving a diagnosis. We all experience these hello or goodbye” moments of change but what do we do to mark them meaningfully? Could our lives be richer and more resilient if we had real ways to honor, sanctify, and make sense of these important thresholds?

Internationally acclaimed artist and author, Day Schildkret believes what we need is ritual. Influenced by his religious upbringing and decades as a Jewish educator, Schildkret re-inspires Jewish ritual for a modern audience. Rituals are our trusted guides during times of change. They give us a sense of stability in the face of uncertainty and remind us that there’s always something we can do to conjure awe, courage, and gratitude.

Hello, Goodbye is a ritual recipe book for life’s milestones. Informed by hundreds of interviews, each chapter is devoted to a particular moment of loss, celebration of change, and is filled with beautiful illustrations, inspirational storytelling, guiding questions, and experienced wisdom.
