The Horror of the Holocaust (Deadly History) by Claire Throp | Jewish Book Council

Capstone’s Deadly History series consists of four books which detail difficult and frightening times in history: the Bubonic Plague, World War I, World War II, and the Holocaust.

The Horror of the Holocaust presents a clearly-written historical background of the time including the rise of Hitler, a basic description of the era’s anti-Semitic atmosphere, the Nuremberg Laws, and Kristallnacht. It describes the invasion of Poland and the forcing of Jews into ghettos and concentration camps, as well as other brutalities. It also importantly describes attempts at resistance including the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the lives of survivors after the war, the establishment of the State of Israel and the ongoing observance of Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Photographs, charts, and diagrams accompany the text. Appendices include a timeline, glossary, reading list, a website for further learning, a list of critical thinking questions, and an index.

Recommended for ages 9 to 12.
