Adam Piore is a con­tribut­ing edi­tor at Pop­u­lar Sci­ence and Dis­cov­er Mag­a­zine and a for­mer Newsweek Mag­a­zine cor­re­spon­dent. Over the course of his career he has cov­ered Con­gress lived in post-war Cam­bo­dia cov­ered 9 – 11 from Ground Zero spent time with the U.S. Mil­i­tary in Iraq and for this book tried on a suit of arti­fi­cial mus­cles had his brain zapped with elec­tric­i­ty in an attempt to grow smarter (it did­n’t work) and gazed over the shoul­der of a neu­ro­sur­geon watch­ing an exposed brain beat in time with the patien­t’s heart.
