Aspir­ing Young Authors

Through its work, Jew­ish Book Coun­cil sup­ports writ­ers at all stages, ampli­fy­ing Jew­ish voic­es and Jew­ish sto­ries. JBC is proud to present the Aspir­ing Young Author Award, a writ­ing com­pe­ti­tion and pub­li­ca­tion hon­or open to young Jew­ish writ­ers between the ages of 13 – 22. 

This fall through the end of Jew­ish Book Month, JBC is invit­ing stu­dents in mid­dle school, high school, and col­lege to sub­mit orig­i­nal works of short fic­tion, poet­ry, and nar­ra­tive non-fic­tion or per­son­al essay that engage with Jew­ish themes, ques­tions, or expe­ri­ences. Select­ed pieces will be pub­lished on Jew­ish Book Coun­cil’s web­site through the PB Dai­ly plat­form this spring, and shared across JBC’s dig­i­tal and social channels. 

Eli­gi­bil­i­ty:

  • Open to any writer between the ages 13 – 22
  • Sub­mit­ted work must be writ­ten by a Jew­ish author, or engage with Jew­ish themes
  • One sub­mis­sion per cat­e­go­ry, per person
  • AI can­not be uti­lized in sub­mit­ted pieces 
Cat­e­gories:
  • Poet­ry: 1 poem, 2 pages maximum
  • Per­son­al Essay: 1,000 words or fewer
  • Fic­tion: 1,000 words or fewer

  • Sub­mit as PDF
  • Sub­mis­sion should be titled as First Name, Last Name (Cat­e­go­ry of Submission)
Prizes
  • Pub­li­ca­tion on PB Dai­ly dur­ing spring sea­son, with pro­mo­tion across JBC’s dig­i­tal channels
  • An invi­ta­tion to the JBC net­work conference
Dead­line
  • Sub­mis­sions must be received by Dec 4th at 11:59PM.
  • Win­ners will be noti­fied by March
