When Port­land-based Bill Lasch­er began his jour­nal­ism career, his grand­moth­er gave him an antique type­writer. Lasch­er learned it belonged to his grandmother’s cousin, a war cor­re­spon­dent, and he began a report­ing adven­ture dis­cov­er­ing the life of his incred­i­ble ances­tor.
