This book is about the every­day com­mon usage of Yid­dish and Jive, specif­i­cal­ly the Yid­dish and Jive words his­tor­i­cal­ly and present­ly used on TV, in movies, books, radio, in adver­tis­ing, and just about every­where. This book is not a dic­tio­nary of Yid­dish and Jive words. Both Yid­dish and Jive to some extent reflect the under­ly­ing spir­it of two peo­ples who have faced innu­mer­able adver­si­ties. His­tor­i­cal­ly, Jews and black Amer­i­cans have been involved in a long-time spe­cial rela­tion­ship — some­times pos­i­tive and some­times neg­a­tive — some­times as an alliance and unfor­tu­nate­ly some­times in con­flict. Per­haps both com­mu­ni­ties will find some addi­tion­al com­mon­al­i­ties that could bring them clos­er togeth­er while being more under­stand­ing and respect­ful of one another.
