The sto­ry of the Holo­caust and Bucharest Jews in Roma­nia is a his­to­ry not known. Gift of Dia­monds nar­rates this as the main pro­tag­o­nist, 17-year-old Mica, escapes Tran­syl­va­nia with a cache of rare col­ored dia­monds that her father has hid­den in their base­ment. He received them from an inmate at Auschwitz who had escaped and found his way to the Resis­tance head­quar­ters in Bucharest search­ing for a visa to Swe­den and the U.S. Mica uses the dia­monds to escape to US/ NY and then free her par­ents from prison in Tran­syl­va­nia.
