As we approach the 50th anniversary of Jimmy Hoffa’s disappearance in July 1975, Legacy of Lies is an historical thriller which raises new questions about the reasons for the abduction. The story revolves around a former FBI Special Agent-turned-private investigator who is asked by a Mafia contact to follow Hoffa in the summer of 1975. While in a restaurant parking lot, the investigator watches Hoffa get into the car with three other men — all of whom the investigator knows are with the Mafia. When he later learns Hoffa is reported missing, the investigator has to decide whether to contact the FBI. He knows all about the Mafia’s practice of eliminating witnesses to its crimes, and, as a widower, he is worried about leaving his only child — a son in high school — without any parent at home. It is a book filled with twists and turns. It touches on the forces involved in Hoffa’s disappearance — Bobby Kennedy’s vendetta against Hoffa when he was Attorney General, President Richard Nixon’s bid for re-election in 1972, and, last but not least, the Mafia.
