David I. Kertzer is Research Pro­fes­sor at Brown University’s Wat­son School of Inter­na­tion­al and Pub­lic Affairs. He is the author of thir­teen pre­vi­ous books, includ­ing The Pope and Mus­soli­ni, win­ner of the Pulitzer Prize for Biog­ra­phy; The Kid­nap­ping of Edgar­do Mor­tara, a final­ist for the Nation­al Book Award; and, most recent­ly, The Pope at War, a New York Times best­seller. A fel­low of the Amer­i­can Asso­ci­a­tion of Arts and Sci­ences, he and his wife, Susan, live in Maine and Rome.
