Don Koplen, 70, lives in Boul­der, CO. He grew up in Danville, VA, where his grand­fa­ther start­ed an Ortho­dox syn­a­gogue and his father start­ed the Reform tem­ple. He is an entre­pre­neur, fam­i­ly man, musi­cian, ath­lete and mem­ber of a Jew­ish renew­al com­mu­ni­ty. His fam­i­ly cloth­ing store, start­ed in the 1880s, still serves as an inter­sec­tion of black and white communities.
