Shel­don Lewis was ordained at the Jew­ish The­o­log­i­cal Sem­i­nary where he was a stu­dent of Abra­ham Joshua Hes­chel. After serv­ing as a chap­lain in Viet­nam, he worked as a con­gre­ga­tion­al rab­bi for decades. His focus is always on peace­mak­ing among streams of Judaism and in the inter­faith com­mu­ni­ty and on human rights. He is an ardent stu­dent of Jew­ish sacred texts.
