Imagine awakening to a new reality of who you are, revealing a buried past that has shaped your family’s history for centuries.

A series of seemingly unrelated events force the protagonist of Hidden Star to reexamine her life and all she has inherited. A mysterious cache of artifacts provides links to her family’s true past and former identity — that of Spanish colonial settlers, conversos later referred to as hidden or crypto-Jews. Her quest for her real identity and the search for her runaway children across the New Mexico wilderness ultimately reveal a startling truth. Guided by a priest and a local sheriff, her eventual rediscovery of her Jewish roots and her spiritual return launch a dramatic homecoming. With a forward moving plot line anchored by flashbacks into Jewish history, two women face parallel dilemmas at the book’s closing: one at the mercy of the Spanish Inquisition, turning from Judaism to Christianity to save her life; the other from Catholicism back to Judaism, to save her soul.
