This is a colorful board book with bright, appealing pictures featuring an animal scene on each double-page spread. The left-hand side shows the animal in its habitat with an added line of information on the page. The right-hand side has a close-up picture of the animal with the sound” the animal makes spelled out below the photo. The twist here is that each photo is that of a kosher animal, presenting the start of a mini-lesson for toddlers about kashrut and its approach to life. Recommended for ages 1 – 4.

Michal Hoschander Malen is the editor of Jewish Book Council’s young adult and children’s book reviews. She has lectured on a variety of topics relating to children and books and her greatest joy is reading to her grandchildren on both sides of the ocean. Michal lives in Great Neck, NY and Efrat, Israel.
