Join Daniela Ger­son and Nicholas Lemann in a con­ver­sa­tion with Stephanie But­nick root­ed in find­ing your place in the world after war or tragedy – who are you when you’ve been uproot­ed, and how do you find a home in a world now for­eign to you?

Daniela Ger­son is an award-win­ning reporter whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Der Spiegel, Pub­lic Radio Inter­na­tion­al, and the Finan­cial Times, among oth­er out­lets. An asso­ciate pro­fes­sor of jour­nal­ism at Cal­i­for­nia State Uni­ver­si­ty, North­ridge and edi­tor-at-large at Zóca­lo Pub­lic Square, she pre­vi­ous­ly worked as a com­mu­ni­ty engage­ment edi­tor at the LA Times and as a staff immi­gra­tion reporter for the New York Sun. She has also direct­ed pro­grams at the inter­sec­tion of civic engage­ment and news rep­re­sen­ta­tion for the Uni­ver­si­ty of South­ern California’s Annen­berg School and the City Uni­ver­si­ty of New York’s New­mark School.

Nicholas Lemann is a pro­fes­sor and dean emer­i­tus at the Colum­bia Jour­nal­ism School. He is the author of The Promised Land, The Big Test, Redemp­tion, and Trans­ac­tion Man. A staff writer for The New York­er since 1999, he lives in New York.

Stephanie But­nick is the founder of the Jew­ish lifestyle newslet­ter GOL­DA. She pre­vi­ous­ly host­ed the hit Tablet pod­cast Unortho­dox and co-authored The Newish Jew­ish Ency­clo­pe­dia: From Abra­ham to Zabar’s and Every­thing in Between. She lives in New York City with her hus­band and two daughters.
