T.K. Thorne retired as a cap­tain of the Birm­ing­ham Police Depart­ment and cur­rent­ly serves as exec­u­tive direc­tor of a busi­ness improve­ment dis­trict. Both careers have pro­vid­ed fod­der for her award-win­ning writ­ing. She is a mem­ber of Or Hadash, a Human­is­tic Jew­ish com­mu­ni­ty in Birm­ing­ham and writes on a moun­tain­top, often with two dogs and a cat in her lap.
