Harsh Med­i­cine is the cul­mi­na­tion of a qual­i­ta­tive research study in which Dr. Gran­dis, a physi­cian sci­en­tist, inter­viewed of over 100 men and women in aca­d­e­m­ic med­i­cine at over a dozen insti­tu­tions, focus­ing on the leak­ing pipeline of women in her pro­fes­sion. She inter­viewed experts in their field about what they expe­ri­enced and how they suc­cess­ful­ly nav­i­gat­ed tough work environments.
