Jo-Anne Berelowitz was born in South Africa during Apartheid. She left for California in 1977 with her husband. She is an art historian with advanced degrees from Stanford University and UCLA. Though she thought she’d put South Africa behind her, she became haunted by memories of living there and by longing for a place to call home.
