Dear Jewish Book Council Community,
This year was an incredibly meaningful celebration of 100 years of Jewish Book Month. Your partnership brought Jewish Book Month into your communities and out into the larger world.
Together, we honored Fanny Goldstein’s legacy with book festivals across North America — in partnership with our JBC Network Member Sites. We reached over 1,000 readers at Jewish Book Council’s Lower East Side Pop Up Bookstore, partnered with over 200 community organizations and members through social media, events, and our Jewish Book Month 100 display kits, and engaged young readers through our Jewish Book Month 100 Day School Events and our PJ Library November mailing collaboration. Jewish Book Council also proudly launched our newest initiative, Nu Reads, in honor of the centennial.
As we reflect on the 100 years of Jewish Book Month, we are inspired by what the next 100 years of Jewish literature will look like. Thank you for the continuous support in honoring Fanny’s legacy and keeping Jewish literature in readers’ hands.
Jewish Book Month 100 Pop Up Bookstore
In honor of the 100th anniversary of Jewish Book Month, Jewish Book Council — in partnership with UJA Federation-NY and the Charles H. Revson Foundation — turned 81 Hester Street into a cozy Jewish bookstore. Joined by our friends in Jewish communal and publishing spaces, author signings, and a special Russ & Daughters giveaway, Jewish Book Council distributed 1,000 books to our Manhattan based readers to kick off Jewish Book Month 100!
Jewish Book Month 100 Community Partners
Jewish Book Council partnered with over 100 community organizations on our “Share Your Shelf. Share Your Story.” social media campaign, and — thanks to the support of a UJA Federation – NY grant — brought Jewish Book Month directly to doorsteps across New York by distributing more than 100 Jewish Book Month Display Kits throughout the month of November. The kits were designed by Eitan Gutenmacher and included posters, books, literary resources, and more!
Jewish Book Council also collaborated with multiple Jewish artists this year to produce four one-of-a-kind Jewish Book Month 100 posters and partnered on events and campaigns across North America in honor of the momentous holiday.
Highlights include a Book Swap with the West End Museum in Boston, a luncheon with Georgia Hunter at The Weitzman Museum in Philadelphia, and a book launch for In God’s Name by Tomer Persico in partnership with The Shalom Hartman Institute the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan. You can find the full list of our Jewish Book Month 100 festivities at this link.
