Fingerprintz: One Woman’s Journey Through Loss, Love and Very Little Babies

September 1, 2024

In Fingerprintz, Lisa Printz Roday recalls her father’s shocking death juxtaposed with navigating two harrowing preterm births. From sitting shiva, through her journey to motherhood, this memoir is a moving glimpse of a closely knit Jewish family and how its values shape and sustain the author. This richly textured narrative moves effortlessly between the formative memories of Lisa’s father, Harvey Printz, and how his Jewish ideals sustain her during each new crisis she faces after the extremely premature birth of her first son. When she is tested again by the premature birth of her second child, it is her father’s lasting Jewish wisdom and the fingerprints he left behind that see her through. Fingerprintz captures Lisa’s imperfect journey, shows how her faith and heritage shaped her choices, and provided her the emotional fortitude to survive back-to-back NICU experiences. Fingerprintz is a powerful celebration about drawing strength from the traditions of her family, gaining resilience from the tragedies of the past, holding fast to the unbreakable bonds between a father and his grieving daughter, and advocating for hope even during darkness.
